Een caleidoscopische variatie van 23 grondgebonden woningen, twee maisonnettes, acht appartementen en The Chocolate Shop, beteugeld door gevels in een uitvoering van lichtgrijs leisteen en lichtbruin hout, die ongedwongen maar doeltreffend, strak maar beeldschoon eenheid in verscheidenheid scheppen. Toch zijn ook de gevelbeelden zelf heel afwisselend met terugtredende en vooruitspringende delen, nu eens van leisteen, dan weer van hout, nu eens op de begane grond, dan weer op de verdieping, en soms verglijdend in het vlak. In de hoogte is het complex geaccidenteerd, doordat een deel is opgetopt met eenlaagse appartementen, inclusief uitstulpende stalen balkons. Het ruwe horizontaal georiënteerde leisteen en het fijnbezaagde verticale hout, elk in vier afmetingen, brengen het groene dorpje in weerbarstig sierlijke balans.

De iconische architectonische kwaliteiten zijn innovatief, fraai uitgedacht en maakbaar. Het Industriële gebouw heeft een duidelijke representatie naar de Brielselaan. Een fraaie ruimte voor logo en de asymmetrische plaatsing van de buffertank geeft een ruimer zicht op de Maashaven en creëert een interessante dynamiek. De Installatie is zichtbaar vanaf de Brielselaan, een indicatie van de functie voor de voorbijganger.
Het ontwerp uiterlijk is strak en van hoge kwaliteit waarin het WBR logo tot zijn recht komt. Het ontwerp past in de stedenbouwkundige omgeving op zichzelf.
Het ontwerp heeft het karakter van een icoon.

About François
Francois Verhoeven established his eponymous studio in Januari 2021, having previously been a co-director of the architecture practice Fillie Verhoeven Architects with Dennis Fillié since 1993.
François graduated architectural engineering at the polytechnic school in the Hague after which he studied for his masters degree in architecture at the University in Delft. After his studies he and Dennis Fillié  worked for years as independent architectural engineers for well know Dutch architects like Liesbeth van der Pol, Wytze Patijn, Moshe Zwarts, Gunner Daan and others.

François during his studies and many years later on spent his weekends restoring a wooden ship with Rene Dalmeijer in the museum harbour in Rotterdam. When his son Kevin was born they sold the ship. It sails now with her new owners the Tres Hombres as a trader for chocolate and rum to even the Caribbean.
